How to change the WebClip icons on your iPhone

The fact that some of my favorite mobile sites (*cough* Plurk *cough) have yet to implement a webapp icon for use on the iPhone was really starting to upset me. A mini-screenshot just wasn't cutting it for me anymore. So, I decided to figure out how to change it.

Photobucket

BTW: this tutorial assumes that you have a jailbroken iPhone and know how to use WinSCP or something similar.

1. Connect to your iPhone via WinSCP

2. Navigate to /private/var/mobile/Library/WebClips/

3. Find the WebClip icon that you want to change. They don't make this very easy. The only way to do it is to open each folder and open the icon.png file.

4. Create the icon that you want to use and name it icon.png. You can do this however you would like, just make sure it's 57X57 pixels. For my Plurk icon, I just resized their current favicon. Those with Photoshop skills could come up with something way better, I'm sure.

5. Overwrite your icon.png with the one on the iPhone.

6. Restart your Springboard. If you have Customize installed, you can do it from in there. Otherwise, I think you'll just have to restart your phone.

And that should be it! Have fun!

Pointfest

I thought this was a really cool picture from the lawn at Pointfest last night. It doesn't really convey just how many people were there, though. It was ridiculous. The amphitheater holds 20,000 people, and they sold out, so the place was packed.

The music was good. None of my favorite bands were playing or anything, but it was still a good time. Finger Eleven was good. They played a few snippets of covers halfway through Paralyzer like Another Brick in the Wall. Filter was good, but Ray missed most of them because he was in line getting me nachos, and the lines at Riverport are always so long and so slow. Oh, and Killswitch Engage was awesome, too.

We saw a massive double-fight on the lawn. From what I heard, these guys were hitting on the other guys' girlfriends, so, being the neanderthals that they are, they jumped them. It was actually a really weak fight (just some yelling and shoving), but then the crowd gathered around them and started chanting "Kick his ass!" and other such sayings, so the violence level of the fight increased. There was no bloodsheed, but apparantly there was a winner because there was an abundance of cheering and then the group dissipated. I've never understood the fascination with fights. Just not my cup of tea, I guess.

All in all, I had an OK time. I always enjoy myself at concerts, and this was no exception.
